Kirk Renegar has been named as the Head Baseball coach at Hardin Valley Academy. For the past four years Coach Renegar has worked at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA in the role of assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator. At that time, he also developed the program’s junior varsity team and served as the Head JV coach.
During his tenure, the Hornets baseball program achieved a minimum of 20 wins each year while competing in the nationally recognized USA South Conference. At Shenandoah, Coach Renegar’s primary responsibilities included working with the Hornet hitters and catchers. Under Renegar’s guidance, the Hornet offense produced some of the most prolific offensive seasons in the program’s history. During his four seasons of work, SU hitters finished with top five performances in school history in batting average, runs scored, RBI, slugging percentage, hits, doubles and homeruns.
Coach Renegar was vital in the development of 2006 All-American Ryan Anderson, three-time All-State and All-Conference player David Jenkins, and 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Daniel Ziccardy. Under his guidance Adam Kessel developed into a 2007 unanimous All-Conference selection and All-Region player at Designated Hitter. In 2008, freshman Greg Van Sickler was named first-team All-USA South and Conference Rookie of the Year.
Off the field, Renegar served as Kevin Anderson’s primary assistant with day to day operations of the baseball program. During his four years, Renegar successfully recruited 77 student-athletes to SU.
A native of Stuart, VA, Renegar graduated from Patrick County High School. While there, he was a three-time all-district and all-region baseball performer and was named to the 2000 all-state baseball team. In addition, Coach Renegar was an all-district player and team captain in football. Coach Renegar graduated summa cum laude with a BA in history while playing baseball at Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. He played in the 2003 and 2004 NAIA regional tournaments and helped his alma mater to the 2004 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship. In 2003 and 2004, Renegar was named to the Academic All-Conference team.
Coach Renegar earned his master's degree in education from Shenandoah University in May 2006. He now resides in Knoxville with his wife Rebecca.
